Dr Guy Boggs
Chief Executive Officer

Guy is the CEO chief executive officer of the Cooperative Research Centre for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRC TiME), a platform that is independent, collaborative, solutions solutions-focused and brings together a unique partnership of stakeholders to innovate in how we achieve enduring value through mine closure and post-mine transitions. Guy is an established industry and research leader and is committed to enabling a new vision for mine closure and positive post post-mine transitions through effective stakeholder engagement, research planning and innovative solutions.

Dr Jen Brereton
Chief Executive Officer
Mine Land Rehabilitation Authority, Australia

Jen is the chief executive officer at the Mine Land Rehabilitation Authority (MLRA) based in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria. She has an environmental background and has worked on large projects across many industries (including water, construction, telecommunications, rail and road) with government, consultancies and the private sector prior to joining the MLRA. She is passionate about ensuring a collaborative, inclusive approach with the MLRA facilitating a positive outcome for the Victorian community in the rehabilitation of the three brown coal mines in the Valley.

Peter Harvey
Global Head of Closure
Rio Tinto, UK

Peter is a passionate advocate for responsible mining practices and creating a positive environmental and social legacy. He leads Rio Tinto’s global closure team, ensuring sustainability is considered throughout a mine’s life cycle, from design and construction to operation, closure, and transition.

He joined Rio Tinto in 1998 as a consultant and has since held various positions across Exploration, Health, Safety, Environment & Communities, Projects, and the former Energy & Minerals Product Group.

Prior to Rio Tinto, Peter established and managed companies across diverse sectors including oil and gas, military, remote travel, and exploration, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit. He has lived and worked in the UK, Canada, and Botswana, offering a valuable global perspective.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Southampton University, UK, and a Master of Science in Occupational Psychology from the University of Leicester, UK. This unique combination of qualifications positions him to effectively manage closure projects, balancing environmental responsibility with employee wellbeing. Peter leverages his extensive network within Rio Tinto and his passion for people and positive impact to create successful closure solutions.

Jessica Nicholls
Manager- Environment
International Council on Mining and Metals, UK

Jessica is a manager within the International Council on Mining and Metals’ environment portfolio, specialising in nature, closure, and water programs. With expertise in land and water stewardship, she has previously led mine closure, rehabilitation and long-term environmental planning projects across Queensland, Australia. Earlier in her career, she worked on mine water hydrogeology and contaminated land projects as a consultant. Jessica holds a master of science in surveying and land/environmental management from Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter and a bachelor of science (Hons.) in geology from the University of Southampton.

Dr Ward Wilson
Professor (Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental)
University of Alberta, Canada

Dr. Ward Wilson, brings more than 35 years of industrial experience to his practice in advanced mine waste management. Having extensive work experience as a consulting engineer, he has maintained an exceptionally strong industrial focus through his research programs both at the University of Alberta and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Wilson is involved in mine waste management systems at numerous mine sites worldwide. He has also served as a specialist review consultant for many large international mining projects. Most recently Professor Wilson was a member of the “Expert Panel” that provided an assessment of the technical causes of the rupture of Dam I in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais.
