Field Trip 1 - Mine Closure in Northern Nevada - 3 Days/4 Night - Pre-conference

This three-day field trip will begin in Salt Lake City, Utah and travel across northern Nevada visiting two mine sites each day to observe examples of progressive rehabilitation, decades-old closure work, and recent reclamation.

The group will meet in Salt Lake City in the afternoon of September 25 and leave on the morning of September 26. The group will stay in Elko, Nevada on Day 1 and in Winnemucca, Nevada on Day 2.

Rain Mine - Before and After

Field Trip 2 - Mine Closure in Central Nevada - 3 Days/4 Nights - Pre-conference

This three-day field trip will begin in Salt Lake City, Utah and travel across north-central Nevada visiting two mine sites each day to observe examples of progressive rehabilitation, decades-old closure work, and recent reclamation. 

The group will meet in Salt Lake City in the afternoon of September 25 and leave on the morning of September 26. The group will stay in Ely, Nevada on Day 1 and in the historic Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada on Day 2.

Robinson Mine - Jupiter Pond - Before and After

Field Trip 3 - Heap Leach Closure - 1 Day - Post-conference

On this one-day field trip participants will visit two mine sites that demonstrate good practice in progressive rehabilitation, gold heap leach closure, and post-closure process solution management as well as observing the challenges of rehabilitation in semi-arid environments.

The group will leave and return from the Nugget Casino Resort. Friday, October 6th.

Field Trip 4 - Mine Closure in the Comstock District - 1 Day - Post-conference

On this one-day field trip participants will visit one modern gold mine site, one closed historic mine site and take a four-hour historic walking tour of Virginia City and the Comstock mining district. The two mine sites are examples of gold heap leach closure, and the challenges of rehabilitating abandoned mine sites.

The walking tour of Gold Hill, Virginia City and the Comstock mining district will be led by Gregory Crouch, the author of The Bonanza King, a historical account of the development of the Comstock lode and the people who built the far western United States in the late 1800’s. 

The group will leave and return from the Nugget Casino Resort on Friday, October 6th.
