POSTER SESSION – Submissions now closed

As part of the Mine Closure Conference, there will be a Poster Session that will provide an excellent platform for researchers to showcase their work and contribute to the discussions on diverse topics related to Conference Theme.

The organizing committee invites you to submit your abstracts for consideration in the Poster Session. This is a valuable opportunity for you to share your research findings, innovative ideas, and insights with the conference community.

Poster Session Abstract Submission Guidelines:

  •  Abstracts must be submitted electronically via ProMPT.

  • The abstract should be concise and informative, limited to 400 word.

  • Please include the title, author(s), affiliation(s), and contact information in the abstract submission.

  • Abstracts should focus on topics relevant to the conference theme and can cover a wide range of related areas.

  • All submitted abstracts will undergo a peer-review process to ensure the quality and relevance of the content.

Important Dates:

  • Abstract submission deadline: 08/31/2023

  • Notification of acceptance: 09/7/2023

Accepted abstracts will be displayed as posters during the conference, providing presenters with an opportunity to engage in discussions and receive feedback from fellow researchers, experts, and participants.

Professor Andy Fourie
Professor of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering; and Program Director, Future Tails
The University of Western Australia, Australia

Andy is a professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering, and program director – Future Tails, at The University of Western Australia in Perth. He has worked at the University of Queensland and the University of the Witwatersrand. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Alberta, the Catholic University of Valparaiso in Chile and the University of Colorado in Boulder. His research is in the field of mitigating the impact of mining and municipal solid waste disposal. Andy has been involved in many industry-focussed projects with current projects including An Evaluation of Tailings Storage Facilities Monitoring Technologies managed by AMIRA and funded by eight mining companies; Future Tails aimed at training, research and education to improve tailings management funded by BHP and Rio Tinto; and Evaluating Potential Static Liquefaction of Tailings to Prevent Failures, funded by six mining companies as well as the Australian Research Council.

Professor Mark Tibbett
Professor of Soil Ecology, University of Reading, UK

Mark is a soil ecologist with over 25 years of experience in a range of fields related to plant-soil interactions, mycorrhizas, decomposition and microbially mediated processes in soil. His research portfolio includes soil carbon, metals in the soil-plant system, phosphorus cycling, bioremediation, metallophytes and mine site rehabilitation. Mark is the co Editor-in-Chief of the international journal “Soil Research” and an associate editor for the “Australian Journal of Botany” and “Restoration Ecology” and has published a book entitled “Mining in Ecologically Sensitive Landscapes”.

Jeff Parshley
Corporate Consultant (Mine Closure), SRK Consulting, USA

Jeff is chairman and a corporate consultant at SRK Consulting, with more than 40 years of North American and international mining industry experience. For over 30 years, he has worked on international closure studies that have included planning and design, cost estimating, liability audits, reclamation, and post-closure management. Jeff has overseen abandoned mine closures in the United States and has consulted on feasibility studies, mine permits, detailed mine designs, and corporate financial reporting. Jeff was awarded the 2014 SME/AIME Environmental Conservation Distinguished Service Award for development of the Standard Reclamation Cost Estimator, which is used by numerous companies in North America and abroad.

Associate Professor Behrooz Abbasi
Associate Professor, University of Nevada, USA

Dr. Abbasi is an Associate Professor at Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Since 2017. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Engineering Science from Southern Illinois University. He worked for more than six years as a mining engineer in open pit, underground mines, and quarries, and with CH2M HILL and Golder Associates, Inc. His related research focuses on water treatment, water quality and sustainable mining management.
